College Recruiting Question of the Month:

Letter from parent of Stars 18U Player:
College Showcase Vs Local Tournaments
I can still remember the fall of 2007 when my daughter first played for the Stars and they played three College Showcases.

I was new with the organization and I remember approaching Coach Glen and telling him how impressed I was with his organization (the Maryland Stars) and the caliber of teams he was playing. I remember him telling me how he always wanted to play the best teams.

If your daughter has a dream to play in college it is so important to get all the exposure and the experience that she can. These tournaments also provide individual camps in which a lot of college coaches attend. Don’t get me wrong -- local tournaments are nice. They are local and convenient.

However, the exposure and the experience pale in comparison to the true college showcases. I can remember last year at the Carolina Cardinal Showcase. A coach approached me he didn’t know me and I didn’t know him. We began talking and I remember him saying what a class organization the Stars are.

If this is your 1st year for showcases your child will experience the highest caliber of competition and raise her play to the next level.

Coach Glen and Coach Gary have compiled an excellent schedule to showcase your daughter’s talent to many prospective colleges.

To close my daughter was seen at those fall tournaments and she is now living her dream and she gained great experience playing such a top schedule this past summer.

The Maryland STARS Girls Fastpitch Softball Tournament Team Program is a program that fields select teams at age groups 10, 12, 14, 16, 18&under and over 18. STARS teams compete at the highest levels and are considered one of the top programs in the region.

The STARS are based in southern Carroll County, Maryland within reasonable driving distance for players in the surrounding counties and south central Pennsylvania. Practices are held at their Mayeski Park complex and surrounding facilities and winter indoor practices and clinics are held at schools in this area.

The STARS' goal is to provide an opportunity for the top and most dedicated athletes to participate at a level of play commensurate with their talents. The STARS are dedicated to player development and growth. Fundamentals and skill development are emphasized over winning.

STARS coaches keep their knowledge current through an intensive training program featuring clinics, certifications, and video programs.

The STARS compete in Softball Tournaments in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, West Virginia, and Virginia against some of the finest fastpitch softball teams in these areas.

The STARS teams also attempt to qualify and participate in a National tournament. The STARS have played in National and Exposure tournaments in Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Colorado, and Montreal Canada.

Help Wanted
Ever wonder what it takes to make the STARS program happen? No it is not magic. Besides teaching the players how to play the game and all of the administrative functions associated with each team, there is plenty of work to be done with the tournaments we host, pitching clinic, field maintenance, scheduling, publicity, fundraising, facilities, etc. Guess how it gets done and who is making it happen.
